Initially, I have achieved a good performance to learn and master the knowledge in the field of economics and accounting. My GPA of my undergraduate career in the major of economics and accounting is 3.5. It is a high score indicates my outstanding learning performance in the lower division. It means that I currently am able to understand the basic concepts and theories in this field and apply them in the real-world cases such as the assessment of economic performance, the analysis of economic influences on business and financial markets, the evaluation of future economic trends, and the review and making of financial reports for investors. The preparation allows me to be easier to learn and use the advanced knowledge in the master level.
Moreover, I have previewed the courses and their covered knowledge in the master course of economics and accounting. Through the website of the university, I have seen the courses in my applied major and their objectives of learning in the fields of economics and accounting. Then, I checked the information of these courses online and read the learning experiences of other students in this major. This preparation effectively helps me to understand the contents of the course and be prepared for achieving the outstanding learning performance in the future study.
In addition, as an overseas student from China, I have gotten used to the learning environment in the United States. Throughout my undergraduate career, I have four-year learning experiences in the United States. I not only understand the US culture including English language, cultural diversity, and the US history but also make many local friends who help me to integrate into the environments of the campus and the society. This preparation benefits me to avoid all cultural problems and issues in my learning process in the UCSB.

Question 1:
Dispute resolution is one of my successful leadership experiences in my learning experiences throughout my undergraduate career. I my undergraduate period, I was assigned by my instructor to form a group with other four students to complete a research project to analyze the influences of a country’s economic performance in recent years on its one specific business market. The central idea of my instructor to form the group was diversity. This idea led to a highly diversified structure of my team, including one from China (me), one male student from India, one African-American female student, one white male student, and one Asian-American female student. The problem of my team was, although the diversity could broaden our ideas based on our different cultural and experiential understandings, it still significantly increased the possibility of disputes occurred in our discussion process. In the discussion process, we had significantly different opinions about our project in relation to the selections of the country and the business market. We were all insistent people so that we disputed a lot in the discussion process. Importantly, the high-level dispute made the course of our project late behind the schedule.
In this case, I had stood out as a leader of the team to successfully resolve the disputes in our discussions. Among all alternatives we provided for our project, I firstly set up a standard of evaluation in order to resolve the variety of our different evaluation standards based on our own cultural and experiential understandings. I carefully evaluated the importance of the project, including its benefits from the knowledge practice process and the knowledge obtained from the research process. Then, I evaluated the common features in our team, including our similar interests and future career expectations. Next, I used the important points of the project and our similar characteristics as the criteria to develop an evaluation standard. Based on this standard, our dispute quickly resolved because we knew the final choice could provide the best benefits to all of us.
Question 3:
I believe that my greatest talent is learning. My talent divides into two parts – the hardworking learning and the creative learning. Initially, the hardworking learning connects with my capability of insistency. I usually set goals for my future. For example, in the high school, I set the goal to promote from the normal class to the elite class in order to ensure my future college enrollment. Then, I would insist the long-time hardworking studies to achieve this goal. In this case, I allocated most of my time on learning in order to utilize my significant efforts to achieve the success of learning. I developed this part of my learning talent through the excitement of success. In the elementary school, I firstly experienced the great excitement from the significant improvement of my academic performance after one-year hardworking study. I repeated this hardworking style in my high school experiences and achieved the great success in the class promotion. Now, I have a strong belief that as long as I can use my greatest efforts to approach the goal I set, I will have the greatest possibility to achieve the goal and feel the greatest happiness through the goal achievement.
Furthermore, my creative learning talent associates with my learning from various sources. As an illustration, in the high school, I was trouble in memorizing English vocabularies because there were rare opportunities for me to use them in the real life at that time. In order to deal with this problem, I creatively looked for creative memorizing method from books in the city library. I found out an effective method called association method. It focuses on associating English vocabularies with the terms, objects, or things that common in my real life. For instance, I memorized the word of “jubilant” by associating it with the actor, Chaplin because they had similar pronunciation and the shared meaning of joy. By creatively learning this method, my performance of memorizing English vocabularies improved significantly. Accordingly, I developed my creative learning talent through my active attempts of learned creative learning methods.
Question 4:
Hardworking is my way to take the advantage of a significant educational opportunity in my high school study. My high school applied the concept of differentiation. It allocated students with different learning performances into different levels of classes. For students with outstanding performance, they were allocated to the elite class where had the highest college-going rate ensured by the highest-quality of teacher and educational resources. In contrast, for students with normal or bad performances, they were allocated to the professional class or the normal class where had lower quality of educational resources such as new teachers just graduated from the normal university. Unfortunately, I did not do well in the high school entrance exam. I was allocated to the normal class where the whole class might only have one student or even none to be enrolled by the college after three-year study. Fortunately, I had a significant educational opportunity in the school. The school had a promotion and demotion policy. For the students who have the top or bottom five performances in the end-of-year exams, they can promote or demote to the higher or lower level of class. According to this opportunity, if I could achieve the top performance for two consecutive years, I was able to promote to the elite class where had 100% of college-going rate in my school. However, it was not easy to take this opportunity because I needed to promote twice in two years. It required zero failure and the hardest working. Finally, I took the opportunity. In two years, I waked up at 6am every day and use one hour to memory English vocabulary and mathematic theories before going to the school. I attended five tutorials twice a week. I studied till 12pm every day. With this extreme hardworking, I surpassed others in my class and successfully obtained the educational opportunity to promote to the elite class. Importantly, the success in this case provided the opportunity to me to study overseas in the United States. Now, I still rejoiced for my past hardworking experiences.
