Proposal
In my paper, I want to deal with how My Favorite Murder becomes such a huge success among readers. I will develop my paper by answering the following question: (1) how is My Favorite Murder different from other crime-genre works? It seems that one apparent feature of My Favorite Murder is its unique way of narration by narrating the crime stories in a vivid and humorous way. It also differs from what people hear about when they learn crime stories on newspaper or TVs that follow a formal and serious way. 2) To what extent the differences between My Favorite Murder and the ordinary crime stories satisfies the psychological needs of its customers? Here I will put the exploration of the readers’ psychological needs in the context of the modern society, especially their sense of fear and concern regarding the crimes. Then I will discuss how these needs are satisfied by My Favorite Murder. 3) What social implications does My Favorite Murder have? I will research into the way this podcast explores the common issues with the criminals under the modern cotext. In this way, as I answer these questions, my reesarch paper also goes from the shallower to the deeper.

This article analyzes why the female readers like to read true crimes so much and believe that by doing so, the female readers can overcome their previous trama and inner fear. This is a credible source. In this source the author uses massive academic sources to analyze the psychology of the female readers of true crimes. He also keeps an objective attitude. I shall use this source to support my analysis of the psychological needs of the listeners of My Favorite Murder.

This articles mainly concerns the popularity of My Favorite Murder among its listeners and the latter’s fascination with death. Posted on New York Times, this mainly uses the interview with Hardstark to support its illustration, which makes the article greatly convincing. I will use the data included in this article to clarify the popularity of this podcast among the public.

In this article, Andrea argues that at the same time of telling creepy crime stories in a humorous way, My Favorite Murder goes deeper by digging the mental health issues behind the crimes. The author mainly uses the interview with Maitreme as an assistant of this podcast as the evidence to support his argument, which makes the whole article quite convincing. I could use what Maitreme says to directly answer the extent to which this podcast satisfies listeners’ needs.

This article gives a detailed analysis of the uniqueness of My Favorite Murder and the differences between this one and the common crime genres from Critical Discourse Analysis, Feminist Critical Discourse Analysis. This is a highly convincing article, as the author makes use of both the podcasts from My Favorite Murder and academic research articles. I shall use this source to support my analysis of the differences between this podcast and other crime stories.
