Nowadays, group work becomes more and more popular in the discussion. There are various factors that may cause influences to the results of working in a group. The factors can be mainly called the external and internal conditions. Although it is known to all that the strength of an individual is always less powerful than that of a group, the final results are also determined by many other elements, such as the source of members, the strategies and the tasks. There are also many scientific management theories on the effects of group work. Different theorists may have diverse opinions on the behavioral science. The paper will discuss the factors and theories in detail.
2.0Factors influencing group behavior and success
2.1The external factors on the group behavior
The external factors have great influences on the behavior of the group in modern society. For example, in the time period of the economic crisis, the group work may not reach the aim smoothly. The work of a company needs good economic conditions to support the development of it. When a kind of certain commodity does not satisfy the needs of the consumers, the group work of the companies producing this commodity will lose profit and can notexist for a long time(Charles, 1991). In this case, the economic conditions and the needs of customers are two important factors affecting the industrial activities which are always in the style of group work.
2.2The resource of the group members
The resource of the group members also affects the results of group work to a great degree. In most big companies, the human resources are often selected strictly. The workers in the company have abundant knowledge and experience. The better the resource of group members, the greater the company may be. Such as the Apple Company, the group members in designing and developing the cellphones must qualify with the knowledge and abilities to grasp the needs of customers to create the satisfying products and to make profits for the company(Charles, 1991). If the resource of group members can not meet the development of an organization, the results of the group work may be disappointing.
2.3The structure of the organization
The structure of an organization plays an essential role in the outcomes of group work. When the structure is very appropriate to the development of employees and the organization, the outcome will be very pleasing. However, the improper structure may cause damage to the group work and the results will be bad(Hertz, 1950). For example, the structure of the IBM Company is wonderful. Under the fantastic structure, the group can spare no efforts to contribute to the development of the company. The employees can realize their own values in the company. However, in the beginning of the foundation of a small company, the structure may not be suitable, so the group work may always be fruitless. It is important to establish and improve the structure of an organization to follow the pace of society and meet the demands of group members(Akerlof, 1998).
3.0The organizational tasks finished by group work
3.1The scientific management
The scientific management has turn to be one of the most popular topics in society. With more and more companies and organizations being established, the leaders of the organizations now pay much attention to the management in scientific ways. The management science was produced in 5000 BC., and it has experiences many phases, such as Taylor, FFayol and Weber. This scientific management theory will never end up the development. Taylor is famous for the scientific management. Taylor holds the view that the scientific principles are essential to the accomplishment of organizational activities(Becker, 1996). In the society, most of the work can notbe finished by an individual. It must be done with the efforts of one or several groups. The theories of scientific management can be changing with the development of society and the ideology of human beings. Group work is in accord with the trend of society, so more and more theorists are in favor of the idea of using group work to complete organizational activities.
3.2Organizational tasks
The society is developing, such as the technology and the education. More and more tasks demand the group work. Organizational tasks are now very common in the world(Alfred, 1977). For example, a restaurant may need the group work of chefs, servants and cahier to make profits. In some cases, the organizational tasks are quite hard to complete. Thus, the group has to seek for help from other organizations or other groups(Sapru,2008). In this case, the degree of difficulty can also be a factor that affects the results of group work.
