Cyberbullying
In January 2018, two twelve-year-old middle-school students were arrested by the Florida police after engaging in cyberbullying that led to the death of Gabriella Green at the age of 12 (“2 12-year-olds Arrested for Cyberbullying in Connection with Suicide of 12-year-old Girl”). The death of Gabriella once again triggers people’s concern over the cyberbullying It is becoming an increasingly severe issue on the Internet, especially with the popularity of social media. I read a BBC article about the Safety Net report of the severity of cyberbullying. Based on this report, as many as 50% of the 1,089 interviewees have the experience of being bullied on the Internet, while two-thirds of these bullied choose not to tell their parents (“Social Media Firms ‘Failing’ to Tackle Cyber-Bullying”). The report from BBC fully reveals the popularity of cyberbullying on the Internet that will inevitably disrupt the normal order in the cyber space. Here cyberbullying refers to “the use of technology to harass, threaten, embarrass, or target another person” (Teens’ Health). In consideration of the severe consequences cyberbullying has on the adolescents, including their physical and psychological health, social communication problems, and academic performances, it is urgent for the governments, schools, and social media operators to cooperate to fight against the cyberbullying.
Cyberbullying will increase the adolescents’ risks of developing mental disorders   such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, and so on. The cyberbullying problem is regarded as a more severe issue than screen time addiction. Cyberbullying problem is popular. The bullies are not only existing in the playground of school but also existing in the virtual world through the Internet. However, the harm caused by cyberbullying can’t be ignored as a result of its virtualization. The harass which comes from our pocket is everywhere. When it comes to the negative mental impacts of cyberbullying, Tynes points that cyberbullying increases anxiety and depression in no small degree (para2). What’s more, it usually makes the mental health problems become more complex over the years (para2). It is obvious that the people who suffer from cyberbullying will distort their characters. The educational and mental health professionals should take interventions which are closely connected with Cyberbullying into consideration with the purpose of optimizing online experience. It can support mental health, social and emotional learning. It is apparent that cyberbullying will cause harm to the online environment and the positive and healthy personality of people.
Cyberbullying will not only cause harm to people’s mental health, it is also bad for people’s physical health. Cyberbullying can cause death to some extent. It is a report from the New York Times which is related to Rutgers University. Schwartz reported that Tyler Clementi dies of the exposure of Cyberbullying (para 1). When he intimately contact with a man, what he has done was seen by his roommate and another student (Schwartz, para 1). The two uses the web camera to see the intimate behavior between Clementi and a man and expose it online (Schwartz, para 1). When Clementi heard the news, he jumped from the George Washington Bridge. The two face with severe criminal charges which are related to invasion of privacy (Schwartz, para 1). Cyberbullying makes Clementi loses his life and nothing can be done to make up for it. The case arouses people’s strong anger, because similar suicide incident occurred before. Schwartz argues that the advocacy group Campus Pride starts a survey. The survey investigates more than 5000 college students who are gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender, and the results suggest that more than almost 25% students suffered from cyberbullying which are closely related to sexual orientation and gender identity(Schwartz, para 9). What’s more, it finds that above 25% of the students have a trend of taking their own life (Schwartz, para 10). Those who suffer from cyberbullying have a high risk of suicidal attempts. People’s mental health is closely connected with physical health. As a result, cyberbullying is bound to cause harm to people’s physical health.

Cyberbullying has bad effects on people’s learning. The people who suffer from cyberbullying are mainly teenagers. However, the main task of teenagers is learning. Suffering from cyberbullying will distract teenagers from studying. It is news from the New York Times. Hoffman reported that Marie’s son is regarded to speak evil of other people on Facebook (para3). However, her son didn’t do this and was being wronged. Marie made up her mind to figure out the one who framed her son. She asks for help from the school, however, school rejected her. What’s more, the students estrange from him which makes him depressed and has no motivation to study. Besides, proving himself will cost him a lot of time. Another severe cyberbullying phenomenon is race discrimination which is closely connected with the spread of racist image. According to the study of Tynes, almost half of the adolescents suffer from race discrimination in 2013, is 18 percent higher than in 2011(para3). The incidents are closely connected with decreasing learning motivation and behavior problems (Tynes, para3). Cyberbullying will decrease the learning motivations of people, especially teenagers. Because, cyberbullying will bother them and distract them.
The phenomenon of cyberbullying occurs regularly. More specially, cyberbullying occurs every day and it is a nationwide problem. It is among all different ages and it is not just teenagers. Cyberbullying is most common on Facebook and Instagram. People can make comments on Snapchat, even the comments are wrong. For the snap, chat will disappear after 24 hours. Cyberbullying has a bad influence on peoples’ every aspect which involve mental health, physical health, and learning. Because, every aspect of people’s life influences each other. As a result, cyberbullying causes harm to people’s every aspect. The point which is especially severe is that cyberbullying can make people have a trend of taking their own life. In a word, cyberbullying must be limited as a result of its far-ranging and deep harm.
