Comparative Analysis of Last Podcast on the Left and My Favorite Murder
Through this research paper, I want to figure out what contribute to the great differences between these two podcast, inclusive of (1)What differences are there between Last Podcast on the Left and My Favorite Murder in content? (2) how they tell stories differently and (3) how about the atmosphere?
My thesis statement will be: Overall, unlike Last Podcast on the Left that appeals to people’s curiosity, attaches great importance to the cultivation of the mysterious atmosphere, and tries to revive the stories in listeners’ mind through vivid description, My Favorite Murder guides listeners to the psycho of the criminals, uses humor to alleviate listener’s tension, and reveals the issues with the criminals through conversations.
I pick up these podcasts because of their success in appealing to the listeners by using quite different strategies. After viewing some episodes of these two podcasts, I realize that Last Podcast on the Left looks more like a successful conventional horror podcast that guides us into the imaginary crime world. However, My Favorite Murder is an unconventional one. So I want to know the underlying strategies that are employed in these two podcasts to enhance their effects. For the moment, I have learned that one great distinction between these two podcasts lies in their appealing to listeners’ distinct psychological needs. Last Podcast on the Left tells the horrible stories and satisfy people’s curiosity at the same time of creating a sense of horror. By exploring the stories of murder, My Favorite Murder aims to explore the psyche of the criminals and guide readers to make sense of them. These two podcasts also differ in their use of narrative strategies. Last Podcast on the Left attempts to reproduce the mysterious stories in the mind of the listeners through their use of vivid languages and background music. My Favorite Murder aims to make sense of the issues with the criminals under their social contexts, mainly through conversations. When it comes to their differences in the atmosphere, Last Podcast on the Left reveals a mysterious and creepy atmosphere, while My Favorite Murder makes a balance between relaxation and tension.
