"The Natural Aristocracy" is the fourth chapter of Fareed Zakaria's book, In Defense of a Liberal Education. In this chapter, Zakaria discusses the development history and current situation of liberal education from multiple aspect and shows hissympathy with liberal education. Firstly, through introducing the two pioneers of liberal education, the author shows the roots and basic ideas of liberal education. Benjamin Franklin, one of the pioneers, establishes the University of Pennsylvania and holds the opinion that education is to create 'true merit' that can benefit human beings (Zakaria, 2). It shows that one of the basic ideas of liberal education is that the liberal education should serve the society and human beings in a wide range. Thomas Jefferson, the other pioneer, sets the University of Virginia and insists that the aristocracy is not decided by their family background but the education (Zakaria, 4). In other words, the other basic idea is that the liberal education can help to ensure thedemocracy and cultivate the true aristocracy. Secondly, the author also discusses the inequality factors that limits the development of liberal education. On the one hand, Jefferson says that the rich always occupy more education resources (Zakaria, 5). On the other hand, the increasing costs limit the development of liberal education (Zakaria, 7). That is to say, both the distribution of wealth and the high costs of education affects the education equality and prevent the public from acquiring high-level education. Through discussing these facts, Zakaria shows the inner factors that limit the development of liberal education. 

Finally, the author indicates that the liberal education gain benefits from technology such as MOOCs now. Zakaria says that the development of internet changes the modern life, and MOOCs such as Khan Academy help more people in developing countries to gain liberal education (12). Since MOOCs provide more education opportunities to the public, it helps to overcome the equality of education and contributes a lot to the development of liberal education. 

Consequently, the author introduces the development process of liberal education and show his positive attitude on liberal education. The author starts his big picture of the development of education with the basic ideas of liberal education, and then shows the limiting factors of liberal education. Finally, the author ends with the contribution of MOOCs on liberal education.
